Adios to La Niña

The weather pattern, La Niña, has left the region and meteorological indicators have returned to neutral.

A La Niña causes a wet period in the affected region. The end of the weather episode may provide some relief in light of the recent floods in NSW.

However, Bureau of Meteorology Manager of Climate Prediction Services, Dr Andrew Watkins warns, “while this La Niña may be over, we still need to be cautious. The oceans around Australia remain warmer than normal, and the tropical wet season is expected to remain active until the end of April, bringing with it the possibility of tropical cyclones and further heavy rain”.
