Arctic sea ice coverage is at its lowest since observations began in 1972.
Ice coverage in the Arctic has declined by 11% each decade since satellite tracking began and late last week coverage dropped below 4.24 million square kilometres – beating the previous minimum, recorded in 2007.
The findings present further evidence of the human footprint on climate change.
