Batteries get the MRI treatment

Batteries could become lighter, safer and more versatile by examining their insides with new MRI techniques, claim scientists at Cambridge University, Stony Brook University and New York University.

Taking apart batteries to examine the insides defeats the purpose as it destroys parts of the battery, but with this new technique build-up on the electrodes can be visualised and the batteries can be improved upon.

This, in turn, could reduce the likelihood of battery failure, overheating and explosions.
