The study gave subjects 70 ml “shots” of concentrated beetroot juice and found that two concentrated beetroot doses were more potent than one and that the effects of the juice were most potent 2-3 hours after drinking.

Results showed that the juice reduced oxygen consumption by up to 3%, implying subjects exerted less energy during exercise than they did while exercising without the juice. Researchers suggest ingesting beetroot juice a few hours before exercise to maximize results.
