Bird-watchers could contribute to environmental data collection by becoming citizen scientists.
If bird-watchers modified their watching behaviour by a small degree – such as watching the same area each day – and recorded the results of their observations, they could contribute millions of dollars in volunteering hours to scientific programs.
This could have a large impact on the size of data sets available to scientists in a way that would otherwise not be possible due to cost.
