Oriental therapy such as Tai Chi and Qigong can improve the physical and mental health of people with diabetes and obesity.
The study examined adults with or at risk of developing type 2 diabetes and found that those who engaged in the gentle, low-impact movement therapy experienced a reduction in blood sugar, blood pressure, body weight and waist circumference.
Participants also experienced positive improvements in mental health, such as increased strength and flexibility, improved sleeping patterns, immunity and quality of life.
