Coal slips as a cost effective source for electricity in US

New research from Duke University has identified a shift away from coal as a the lowest-cost means of generating electricity in the United States.

Researchers cited low natural gas prices and federal emission regulations as major factors contributing to the shift away from coal.

According to the report, over 50% of coal projects in the United States will have their economic viability challenged by increasing federal regulation.
