Computers can mimic human gender perceptions

A mathematical model that allows computers to recognise gender identity in the same way people can has been developed.

Led by PhD candidate Syed Zulqarnain Gilani, researchers from the University of Western Australia have developed a model that matches the gender scores people give to human faces ranging from very masculine to very feminine.

The researchers hope to use the modelling to analyse the faces of children to help with the early detection of autism.
