Degradation on land threatens reef health in Madagascar

Soil erosion, land degradation and climate change threaten the health of coastal reefs and ecosystems in the western Indian Ocean.

The study took place in two catchments in Madagascar. It is significant because deforestation has often been linked with the degradation of terrestial ecosystems, but previously there was no evidence of its impact on reef ecosystems.
