Discovery will help dementia research

Brain cells responsible for controlling immunity and microglia inhibit memory during ageing, new research has shown.

However, a molecule called fractalkine, which is produced by nerve cells, is able to reverse this inhibition and stimulate stem cells to produce more neurons.

Researchers hope that the discovery will lead to improved treatments and therapies for dementia.
