Does sewage pollution disrupt invertebrate populations?

How vulnerable are invertebrates living in groundwater? Because we know so little about what they eat, it has been hard to judge these species’ vulnerability to pollution and toxins. A study in New Zealand has found that the community structure of these invertebrates is in fact highly disrupted by organic sewage pollution, and scientists found the effects may be irreversible.
