Don’t hit the road without a helmet

A study led by UNSW found wearing a bicycle helmet certified to Australia’s national standard greatly reduces injury to the head, brain and skull.

The study used crash-test dummies and a test rig that measured the effects of certain impacts on the human head. The findings confirm that helmets serve their intended purpose. They also defy some claims that bicycle helmets are ineffective.
