Don’t just look to CO2 to slow climate change

Cutting emissions of non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gases could slow changes in climate that are expected in the future.

Other greenhouse gases trap also trap heat in the Earth’s atmosphere but many of them have shorter lifetimes than carbon dioxide. By cutting emissions we could quickly reduce their warming influence.

“Lowering emissions of greenhouse gases other than carbon dioxide could lead to some rapid changes for the better,” NOAA scientist Stephen Montzka said.
