Encouraging kids to take risks

Children should be encouraged to take risks and play freely, a study has found.

The researchers staged an intervention at several schools, where they introduced new items to the playground, such as old car tyres.

They also held workshops with parents on the importance of free play and healthy risk-taking.

The children in the experimental groups showed a small but lasting increase in their levels of physical activity.
