Father’s genes build placenta

Paternal genes dominate the building of the placenta providing the genetic blueprint for development.

When all DNA comes from the mother, the embryo develops well while without paternal genes the placenta remains underdeveloped.

Researchers hope their finding offers insights into several genetic human diseases and contribute to successful animal breeding.
