New research will help to more precisely understand the “dilemma zone”, that area at traffic-light intersections where the light turns amber and the driver doesn’t know whether to stop or speed up.
Many factors contribute to the position of the dilemma zone, including driving speed, distance, a driver’s skill level, different road laws, and simple confusion. By using a tool called “fuzzy logic”, researchers were able to draw more precise conclusions from this complicated, inexact data set.
