Garlic fends off fish ‘vampires’

New research has shown that garlic supplements in the diets of fish can keep fanged parasites at bay.

Parasites can endanger fish farmed through aquaculture. But the new research reveals that farmed barramundi on garlic-enriched diets were less likely to be infected by the flat worm parasite - or not infected at all.

Fish typically avoid feed additives because of its bitter tastes, but an unexpected finding of this research indicates that fish love garlic - fish on the garlic supplements ate more.
