Gen X to overtake Boomers for poor health

New research shows Generation X will overtake Baby Boomers for poor health if current trends, including rates of obesity and diabetes, continue.

Researchers compared the health status of Baby Boomers - (born between 1946 and 1965) with Generation X members (born between 1966 and 1980) when both groups were aged 25-44 years.

Generation X had significantly poorer levels of self-rated health and higher levels of obesity and diabetes compared with Boomers, with no real difference in physical activity between the two groups.

Researcher Rhiannon Pilkington said the data suggests each younger generation is developing obesity and related chronic health conditions earlier in life.
