Horny crickets die young

Crickets that exert large amounts of energy throughout their lives have been found to die earlier than their less-energetic companions. A recent University of Exeter study looked at the relationship between sexual performance, life expectancy and metabolic rate and found that male crickets who spent more energy on mating calls had a higher metabolism and, as a result, a shorter life span.
