Illness perception affects health

The way people perceive their illness has a significant impact on their health, a review of existing studies has found.

People’s perceptions are directly correlated with several factors concerning health outcomes, including duration of illness and treatments, because it guides their decisions about health.

The findings suggest that an effective treatment requires more than just a good doctor, it must also take what the patients think of their situation into account.
