The Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa is a federal research institution, funded by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. As a research center, it was founded to create a dedicated space for intellectual work, historic research and preservation efforts that explore Brazil’s national history. The foundation also offers a post-graduate studies program focused on Brazilian culture, history and philosophy. The primary educational mission of the Master’s degree curriculum is to train people in the science of historic cultural preservation, such as librarians, archivists, curators and documentarians.
