Technological University of Cyprus

International Profile An important parameter of the international recognition that the University enjoys is the international rankings of universities. In less than 11 years of operation, the CPC has occupied high positions in international rankings. In particular, at the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (THE) 2017-18, the CPC ranks 351-400 in the world and first among the Cypriot Universities. In the same ranking the CPC has received the following positions in the following categories:

“The Best Universities in New Europe 2018”: 2nd place. The ITC has been the highest ranking of all foundations in bibliographic reporting. “Young University Rankings 2018”: 59th place “BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2018”: 37th place The international networking of the university is realized through its participation in 67 international organizations and bilateral cooperation with 78 universities abroad which lead to beneficial inter-university synergies. In addition, the internationalization strategy is enhanced by its participation in the Erasmus mobility program and the national management of the IAESTE program.

Excellence in Research The CPC is constantly committed to promoting research excellence, and is internationally distinguished in this area, providing a total of € 44 million in external funding for 255 research projects. The latest European HORIZON2020 program has secured funding of more than € 11.6 million, with 33 research proposals, showing the highest rate of success in Cyprus. Recent successes include two ERC strategic projects totaling € 3.3 million, two Teaming for Excellence research proposals led by the KPC, which ensured the highest pan-European rating and participated in the creation of a RISE Excellence Center for technological and business innovation.

In addition to European research funding, strategic research synergies such as the establishment of the Cancer Research Center, in cooperation with the German Oncology Center, are being promoted. The three already existing approved research units, Eratosthenes, Heraclitus, and the Department of Social Informatics are also operating with great success.

Another research distinction belongs to the University with the European ERA Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage, with a total amount of € 2.5 million to be given to the Cultural Heritage Center and the Digital Heritage Lab of the CPT. At the same time, the same UNESCO Chair on Digital Heritage, the only UNESCO World Heritage site, was given to the same Digital Art Cultural Heritage Lab.
