The National Archives

The National Archives (TNA) is the government’s national archive for England, Wales and the United Kingdom, we hold over 1,000 years of the nation’s records for everyone to discover and use.

An executive agency of the UK Ministry of Justice, The National Archives incorporates the Office of Public Sector Information, Her Majesty’s Stationery Office, and performs the Historical Manuscripts Commission’s functions in relation to private records. There are separate national archives in some of the devolved parts of the United Kingdom. The National Archives of Scotland holds government and private documents relating to Scotland and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland holds records for Northern Ireland.
