Lyrebirds have rhythm, and dance moves

Male lyrebirds perform choreographed dances to match the song they are singing when trying to attract a mate.

Not only do male lyrebirds coordinate the dance to match the song, but the performance generally plays out in a predictable order. This indicates that skill as well as memory is required for this ritual.

The coordination displays a level of sophistication that has previously only been seen in humans, say researchers.
