Maths maps out gang territories

An American mathematical model that has been used for more than 80 years to determine the hunting range of animals in the wild will now be used to map territories of street gangs.

The way gangs break up their neighbourhoods into unique territories is similar to the way lions or honeybees divide their territories.

The maps of gang territories will provide police with a better understanding of how to allocate resources.
