Media ratings for children not working

Parents prefer a media rating system for movies, video games and television that focuses on detailed content information as opposed to age, according to research from Iowa State University.

Parents do not agree at what age it is acceptable for children to view different types of content and as a result, age-based ratings are not regularly used.

A majority of parents thought there should be a universal rating system for all media, including internet sites and games, music CDs and games on handheld devices.
