Micro-copters create 3D terrain maps

Micro-helicopters can be used to help produce 3D models of a range of different terrain types. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), called OktoKopters, are fitted with a standard digital SLR camera, a range of sensors and software that allows researchers to communicate with the copters in real-time.

The OktoKopters are now being used to create a 3D model of a landslide at Home Hill in Tasmania.
