Money is power in U.S Politics

Political scientists have established a direct connection between financial contributions to political campaigns and legislative outcomes.

Lynda Powell of the University of Rochester has led a national investigation of state legislator archives, using formal models and statistical analysis.

Her study finds that political money is most influential in states with highly compensated legislatures and professionalised leadership structures. Financial contributions are found to be less influential in states with term limits and a higher proportion of educated voters.
