More elderly people suffer falls more often

The number of elderly people hospitalised after a fall continues to rise in Australia.

A new study shows that more than 70% of people aged over 70 report having at least three falls in the past year.

One quarter of older people who have a fall at home require ambulance assistance and over a half of these people will fall again within the next six months.

Research is currently underway to evaluate the best methods of reducing and preventing falls.
