Natural gas may not be the answer to emissions reduction

Although burning natural gas emits less carbon dioxide than coal, a greater reliance on natural gas would fail to significantly slow down climate change.

Even if no methane leaked from natural gas operations, computer simulations indicate that a partial shift from coal to natural gas would slightly accelerate climate change through to at least 2050. If there were substantial leaks this would extend through to 2140.
