‘Netspeak’ important for students learning English

A new study has found students learning English as a second language in Italy and Pakistan were influenced by “netspeak”, such as “gr8” and “lol”.

The study looked at the online, text messaging and even verbal communication and found students were already adopting such netspeak.

The results suggest that teachers of English as a second language might need to begin teaching this new variation of English.
