New crystal has mind-boggling potential for computing

A tiny new ion-crystal looks set to revolutionise computing.

The quantum computer uses a crystal of just 300 atoms suspended in space to complete calculations that would require a supercomputer the size of the known universe.

The computing power of this experimental quantum simulator will eclipse the capacity of any previous computer by a factor of 1080.
