New drug for epileptics on the horizon

Researchers are developing a new anti-epileptic drug that will become active during a seizure and benefit all epileptics, especially those who do not respond to currently available medication. The new drug will aim to inhibit a protein found in all people but which acts to prolong seizures in epilepsy sufferers. Around one per cent of the world’s population suffers from epilepsy and 30 per cent of sufferers do not respond to available drugs.
