New map identifies Scotland’s wild area

A new and highly detailed map of Scotland’s wild areas should aid local governments in planning development around wild areas, as well as promoting wild areas to visitors.

Wild areas contained within national parks or scenic areas are protected, but many wild areas fall outside of these designations and have not been protected. The new map details where these areas are.

The maps were published by Scottish Natural heritage, and use methods developed at the Wildland Research Institute at the University of Leeds.
