New solar technique to turbo charge cells

Cheap solar cells could attain a record-breaking 40 percent efficiency level following the development of a “turbo” technology for solar cells.

The new technique, called photochemical upconversion, involves the joining of two energy-poor red photons to make a single energy-rich yellow photon. This allows the cell to harvest previously unused sections of the solar spectrum.
