No link found between HPV vaccine and blood clots

Danish analysis of women receiving the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has found no link between the vaccine and an increased risk of blood clots.

The researchers used data of all Danish women on the national register between 2006 and 2013, including 500,000 who received the HPV vaccine.

Analysis of the data did not find an association between the vaccine and blood clots in the first six weeks following vaccination – the main risk period.

The researchers said cases such as this exemplify how safety concerns can compromise immunisation programs to the detriment of public health.
