Not all ants are created equal, some are born to lead

A new hierarchy has been discovered among colonies of ants.

It was previously assumed that all ants in a colony were of equivalent status, but new research suggests colonies contain a privileged group of individuals who are responsible for finding new nests.

The study concluded that insect groups may benefit from knowledgeable individuals acting as leaders in decisions.
