Linda Weiss

Writes on state capacity and its contribution to innovation and economic development, with application to East Asian and European cases, and most recently, the United States. Her books include: The Myth of the Powerless State; States and Economic Development; Creating Capitalism; States in the Global Economy (ed); Developmental Politics in Transition (ed). Her most recent book America Inc? Innovation and Enterprise in the National Security State, published in the Cornell series of political economy, examines the national security roots of U.S. high-tech hegemony, including its modern venture capital industry.

Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney, and Honorary Professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. Visiting appointments at the LSE, EUI, Rome University (La Sapienza), Aarhus University, UCLA, Cornell University, Academia Sinica, Seoul National University, SPERI-Sheffield University, and EHESS (Paris).
