Brief Biography
Prof. A.O. Lawal-Are is a full Professor at the Department of Marine Sciences and the Director,
Center for General Studies of the University of Lagos, Akoka. Lawal-Are has acquired over 25
years of cognate experience in teaching, research and supervision with excellent track record of
over 80 publications contributing to coastal shellfish fisheries, conservation and management.
She is member of many scientific societies such as The Crustacean Society (TCS), USA,
Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Italy and Fisheries
Society of Nigeria (FISON), Nigeria. She is also serving as a reviewer for a number of journals
and attended a number of conferences with presentations. Prof. A.O. Lawal-Are is an amiable
personality and has held many diverse positions as she rose through the ranks in academia,
administration and community service.
