Adriana Briscoe

Adriana Briscoe, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine. She is a former Council Member of the American Genetic Association, and has served as an Associate Editor of Molecular Biology and Evolution and as an Advisory Board Member of the National Evolutionary Synthesis Center. She is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the California Academy of Sciences and the Royal Entomological Society. In 2018 she was given the Distinguished Scientist Award by the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science and in 2020 she was given the University Faculty Award by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.

Dr. Briscoe received a B.A. in philosophy, a B.S. in biological sciences and an M.A. in philosophy from Stanford University. She received a Ph.D. in biology from Harvard University supported by a fellowship from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Prior to moving to the University of California, Irvine she was a postdoc at the University of Arizona and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center where she was supported by a fellowship from the Ford Foundation. She has held a research fellowship at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, U.K.

Author of more than 70 articles and book chapters, Dr. Briscoe has given over 60 invited lectures.
