Post-Doctoral Fellow with South African Research Chair in Spatial Analysis and City Planning, University of the Witwatersrand

I have a Masters degree in performance studies from New York University and a PhD from the University of Cape Town in drama and urban studies. My undergraduate degree was in theatre and performance. I worked in the performing arts industry for eight years before returning to academia in 2012 to combine my practical skills as a theatre maker with my scholarly interest in understanding how cities are shaped through everyday activities. My PhD involved a participatory arts process to explore a specific area of Johannesburg as experienced day to day by its inhabitants and my current focus for my post-doctoral work is on disseminating the findings from my PhD and further exploring theatre and performance as research tools and conceptual lenses in urban studies.
