Lecturer in Journalism, Edinburgh Napier University

I am a lecturer in journalism, and Programme Leader of the Journalism BA, at Edinburgh Napier University.

I worked as a journalist for over 20 years, starting as a trainee reporter on a weekly newspaper before moving into news, sport and arts writing on a variety of regional dailies. I have also worked as a PR manager at a national level PR agency, and as an editor at a digital agency.

I was an arts and culture writer (part-time) throughout my time as a print journalist – covering music (from pop and rock to opera and jazz), a TV critic at one point, theatre reviewer. I currently teach a 4th year module called Covering the Arts and so I’m particularly focused at present on the arts and how they are portrayed in the media.
