Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto

Allan J. Baker is a Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Toronto, and Senior Curator of Ornithology and Head of the Department of Natural History at Royal Ontario Museum.

Allan achieved his PhD at the University of Canterbury in 1972. As a researcher, he is particularly interested in using molecular genetics to reconstruct the evolution and phylogeny of birds.

He is also heavily involved in the conservation of migratory shorebirds. With Professor Theunis Piersma of the University of Groningen, he co-founded the Global Flyway Network to provide an early warning service for identifying at-risk migratory shorebirds.
