Alvin hails from Fiji Islands, and has over a decade of practitioner experience on climate change and sustainable development issues from local to international levels. He has worked for Caritas Swiss and Oxfam Australia as Senior Advisor, where he provided high-level technical and advisory support to international climate change programs and strategies in Africa, Asia, Africa and the Pacific Islands. Prior to joining Oxfam, Alvin worked at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). While at the UNDP, he was largely involved in implementing UN’s Sustainable Development policies, alongside UNDP’s Climate Change Strategy across the Pacific Islands. He has assisted with the development of some leading Global Environment Facility initiatives in the Pacific Islands such as the Regional Integrated Water Resources and Sustainable Land Management programmes. He is a research fellow at the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Queensland.
