Amy Steigerwalt is a Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University. Her research focuses on the federal judicial selection process, as well as the role of courts as institutions and the differing influences on judicial and legislative operations and decision-making.

Dr. Steigerwalt's most recent book, coauthored with Jeffrey Lazarus, presents a novel explanation for gender differences in legislative behavior (Gendered Vulnerability: How Women Work Harder to Stay in Office, 2018, University of Michigan Press). She has also published works on unanimous decision-making on the US Supreme Court (The Puzzle of Unanimity, 2013, University of Stanford Press), the political and public responses to judicial decisions (Judging Law and Policy, 2012, Routledge), and the politics surrounding appointments to the federal bench (Battle Over the Bench: Senators, Interest Groups and Lower Court Confirmations, 2010, Univ. of Virginia Press).

Dr. Steigerwalt received her PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and served as an APSA Congressional Fellow. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of the Justice System Journal. Dr. Steigerwalt is a frequent panelist on GPB's daily show "Political Rewind with Bill Nigut," and has recently been cited in outlets such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Washington Post, New York Times, Bloomberg News, and The Independent.
