Anamika Twyman-Ghoshal

I hold a Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Policy from Northeastern University, a Master’s degree in International Business Law from Queen Mary, University of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Law with honors from the University of Wolverhampton. My research and teaching center on the relation between power, systemic injustice, social harm, and deviance in a globalized world. My main research focuses on global crime and crimes of the powerful/white collar crime. I have written on maritime piracy, state crime, terrorism, environmental harm, and antiracists teaching.

Her works have been featured in the British Journal of Criminology, International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice, and Commercial Crime International. Her research has also appeared as scholarly texts in edited books. One of her ongoing projects includes creating and updating the most comprehensive contemporary maritime piracy databases available, the Contemporary Maritime Piracy Database (1991-2018). Prior to joining academia, Dr. Twyman-Ghoshal worked for the International Maritime Bureau in London investigating international shipping, trade, and finance fraud. She is fluent in English, German, Polish, French and conversational Bengali. In her spare time, she volunteers for a non-profit called Communities for Restorative Justice (C4RJ).
