Ann Alston

My research specialism lies in children’s literature, specifically in focusing on issues of ideology in connection with the representation of the family in children’s fiction over the last two centuries. I am currently building on this specialism through an analysis of Welsh children’s literature, an as yet under-developed field whose exploration runs alongside the existing active research into Irish children’s literature which currently attracts international attention. In the future I intend to conduct research into Charlotte Yonge’s nineteenth-century works which would help to extend my specialism into Victorian women’s writing.
