Professor (honorary), The University of Melbourne

Antonia Finnane is an honorary professorial fellow in the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at the University of Melbourne, where she was employed in teaching and research for thirty years prior to her retirement in 2018. Her research specialty is in Chinese history. She was a student in China in the 1970s, and has since lived, worked, and undertaken research there for varying periods of time. Her books include Far From Where? Jewish Journeys from Shanghai to Australia (Melbourne University Press, 1999); Speaking of Yangzhou (Harvard University Asia Center, 2004), Changing Clothes in China (Columbia University Press, 2008), and How to Make a Mao Suit: Clothing the People of Communist China (Cambridge University Press, 2023).
