Barbara Barbosa Neves

Senior Lecturer in Sociology, Monash University

Barbara Barbosa Neves is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Monash University. She is also an elected board member of the International Sociological Association.

Barbara is a sociologist of technology and ageing. Her research focuses on loneliness, isolation, and social exclusion in later life. She studies how emerging technologies – from communication apps to robotic companions – can suit diverse groups of older people.

Her research in both Sociology and Computer Science has been awarded and recognised in North America, Japan, Europe, and Australia. She was recently named one of the ABC Radio National's Top 5 Humanities and Social Sciences Scholars (2019).
