My research and advocacy focus on entrepreneurship and women’s economic empowerment. Co-head, Women20 (W20) Delegation of Canada, an official engagement group of the G20 economies; International Strategic Accelerator for Women (iSAW) W20 Advisory Team; and founding board member of Global Women’s Enterprise Policy Group (GWEP), a 40-country academic consortia focusing on inclusive public policy. Founder, Chair of the Taskforce for Women's Enterprise Growth (2009 to 2011), a Canadian non-partisan consortium of women business owners, service agencies, academics and industry associations. Prior to joining University of Ottawa in 2005 (Full Professor, now Professor Emerita), I was an Associate Professor at Carleton University (Ottawa), Program Manager, The Conference Board of Canada, Centre of Excellence for Women's Advancement (Ottawa), and Associated Professor, Toronto Metropolitan University (then, Ryerson University).

Notable honours: Startup Canada Honourable Mention, Entrepreneur of the Year Award for ‘outstanding impact in Canadian entrepreneurship’ (2018); Canada 150 Women for ‘professional contributions and as a ground-breaking role model and feminist leader' (2017); Women's Executive Network, 100 Most Power Women in Canada (Champion Category, 2010); and The International Alliance of Women World of Difference 100 Award (2010).

Books: Feminine Capital. Unlocking the Power of Women Entrepreneurs (Stanford University Press, 2015), two books on small business finance, and numerous peer-reviewed studies about small business, policy, entrepreneurship education and women’s enterprise growth.
